Sleep Deprivation Death – The Onset
There are two kinds of sleep deprivation. One is an excessive sleep kind, which involves endocrine disorders, encephalopathy and metabolic abnormalities; this causes extreme states of sleepiness. Due to the encephalopathy changes that occur, this kind of sleep deprivation may appear for only a few minutes. Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI)
FFI is a rare sleep disorder which is an autosomal dominant disease. These are diseases or disorders that are genetically passed down through families. They are patterns of inheritance in which the patients have a copy of a mutant gene and a normal gene on a pair of autosomal chromosomes. Individuals suffering of autosomal dominant diseases have a 50-50 chance of passing down the mutant gene to their offspring. Fatal Familial Insomnia results into deaths due to multiple organ failures. It involves the degeneration of certain brain areas, thalamus and over-activities of the sympathetic nervous system.
Sleep deprivation death is also related to emotional disorders caused as a result of piled up sleep deprivation. Sleep disorders such as insomnia have somatic symptoms, but in fact are mood disorders caused due to a lack of emotional control. Such disorders lead to mood changes which keep an individual’s emotions very low constantly. Such people tend to be nervous all the time and suffer of mood problems like depressions, fear, worry, anger and anxiety. Constantly having such emotional complications can lead to health crisis that can endanger the well being of people.
Constant psychological problems create an imbalance in the brains normal functionality.
